Group sessions, home, email and phone consultations are arranged outside these times.

Earlier this year an email went out to the Settle Petal network asking for donations to help flood affected families. The response was heartfelt and truely amazing. This incredible response encouraged me to look at how this network could make a difference to struggling families on a regular basis.

My trip in October looked deeper into how local Sunshine Coast company 'Destiny Rescue' helps children and families in Thailand and Cambodia. I am now convinced Settle Petal can make a significant difference to families living in extreme poverty and children sold for sexual exploits. Through financially supporting projects and families reached by 'Destiny Rescue', young children won't have to be sold and child sexual slavery can end. Settle Petal is an exceptional network of families raising young children and it is exciting to see how together we can make a significant difference beyond ourselves. A percentage of all product and service sales goes directly to 'Destiny Rescue' monthly. (Video clip coming soon).

FACEBOOK has become a place for Settle Petal updates, changes, articles, photos and announcements but for those who do not use facebook here are the latest updates and changes:

1. Only Home Visit Consultations available through Yin Health, Birtinya. No longer available for clinics on a Monday.

Delayed Cord Clamping

Kate Emerson

Delayed cord clamping is a birth practice where the umbilical cord is not clamped or cut until after pulsations have ceased, or until after the placenta is delivered. A growing number of parents are choosing delayed cord clamping for their baby...

Parents who wish to delay or avoid cord clamping should plan with their clinical care providers prior to the birth. In the absence of any rare conditions or accidents at birth, parents have the right to consent to or refuse surgical intervention in a normal birth...

Babysitters

Sunshine Coast Babysitter

Abbey Sparrow

Have you ever had an invite to something and had to turn them down because you couldn't find a babysitter? Or just don't trust anyone with your children? Leaving your children in the care of a stranger is difficult, especially for the first time.

ASAP Child Care understands your concerns and has an extensive screening process to ensure quality care is provided for your children.

• First, we only meet applicants with an early childhood qualification
(or studying) and who have had experience in a variety of age groups. We do this through cross checking resumes submitted and through verbal contact
with referees.

• Second, we ensure their punctuality, presentation and availability when invited for an interview. Having these three qualities ensures a good foundation for families and organisations requiring care.

• Third, we listen to the carers story, ask questions, and give
scenarios to answer. This provides an excellent opportunity for the carer to show their personal qualities that they will use in an early childhood setting.

The carers are required to have certified documents of qualifications, blue card, senior first aid and drivers licence, which are held here in the office. ASAP Child Care has over 12 years experience in the Early childhood industry throughout Queensland and overseas. ASAP Child Care have junior and senior carers that will be allocated to suit your family¹s needs, no minimum hours per booking, and the best rates on the Sunshine Coast.

Bookings can be made via telephone, text, email or on our facebook page.

Worms and Worming

Australian Children

Jan Murray

No socio-economic group is immune to intestinal worm and parasite infestations. Children still get worms even if they bathe daily. There is no point blaming the day care centre or the crèche at the gym for poor cleaning practices. Children get worms and it is thought to effect 1:5 children between 2 and 10 years old at some time. Many children have worms and are unaware of their residence before they clear themselves without treatment.

Worldwide the most common worm is the roundworm but the threadworm (also known as pinworm) is the most common intestinal worm found in Australian children...

Food Labels

Lying Labels Report

Cyndi O'Meara

If you have met me (Jan), you will know that I talk regularly about avoiding certain foods and food additives in your child's diet. I find food intake has a lot to do with behaviour and sleep.

Cyndi O'Meara's food research and ideas makes a lot of basic sense. This article in her latest newsletter talks about food labelling.

"Has the world gone mad? I find it amazing that when people look at the ingredients and nutrition label of a packaged food they are more engrossed in the nutrition label than the actual food content. When I ask people what they look for when they read the label of the food they are buying they tell me they look for the saturated fat content, or the amount of salt, or whether there is enough protein, or what the fat and sugar content is, and even the vitamins and minerals, as is the case with milk and calcium. Very few are interested in
the actual ingredients. Modern thinking finds that a food is OK as long as the nutrition label and the components of food are in the right amounts as deemed by the scientific community and taught to the public by propaganda and advertising...
